Which driver/fairway wood will you hit farther? The Taylor Made RocketBallz or the Nike VRS?

Our launch monitors and Flight Scope will be set up and staff will be on hand to help you see your numbers on each shot for yourself. Having data and seeing the ball flight at the same time is vital for selecting the right club for you this year!

Lake Presidential’s Indoor/Outdoor Learning Center, The Institute, utilizes the latest technology paired with expert instructors/evaluators to improve your game or help you start playing!

The Institute at Lake Presidential is excited to announce that we now use the Flightscope X2 doppler radar launch monitor to provide comprehensive data on ball flight and club movements at and through the impact area of the golf swing.  It provides the most complete measurements to help ensure that you have the most precisely fitted clubs for your golf swing and the most accurate feedback to help improve your golf swing. http://www.flightscope.com/

It complements the existing MAT-T system in our Taylor Made Performance Lab(one of only 16 in the country and the only one between Atlanta and Boston). The MAT-T system(Motion Analysis Technology by Taylor Made) measures the body’s movements with extreme precision and then displays an image that can be viewed from every angle possible, which enhances the golfer’s ability to understand and visualize his golf swing like never before. It is said to speed the improvement and learning process by 10 times that of a normal lesson. http://tmplabs.com/

February also sees the new golf club offerings by most of our vendors including Taylor Made Rocketballz and R11S lines. The Rocketballz driver and fairway woods have been shown to add 20 yards of distance to most people’s drives and fairway shots. The Institute at Lake Presidential offers a complete array of club heads, shafts, the Flightscope X2, the MAT-T system, and an expert group of PGA instructors to help fine tune that choice for you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjYH37syyXY&feature=player_embedded

Course Conditioning – Off Season Update

February 2, 2012

‘Building Blocks’ – Lake Presidential Continues Off-Season Improvements

The weather has certainly been cooperative (knock on wood) for golfers this off-season and the Lake Presidential golf maintenance crew, led by Superintendent Tom Pike, have taken advantage of the weather themselves to continue to lay the ‘building blocks’ of quality course conditions.

As the below photos will show, the team is working diligently on drainage projects around the course. These projects  help eliminate surface water from the golf course in the midst of heavy rains. In addition, they also help eliminate the need for additional fungicide applications to the turf due to the elimination of surface water. By minimizing these expenses, our team can focus efforts on more of the details of the course such as bunkers, steep mowing areas, etc.

'French Drains' help the LP staff manage surface water on the course

In addition, the course’s playability will be enhanced with firmer fairways and green surrounds. “Lake Presidential’s topography has so much character with the hills, valleys, and chipping areas. Our objective is to make these play true to their intention all year long to bring more unique shots to the golfer to enjoy during their round,” says Head PGA Professional Nathan Presnal.

“We understand that course conditioning is of the utmost importance to the golfer and these improvements will allow us to meet the challenge of the mid-Atlantic summers and keep our bent grass surface in prime condition,” explains Troy Miller, architect for Landmark Land Company, the designing firm of Lake Presidential. “The intent of many of the design features of the fairways and green surrounds requires firm conditioning to allow the golfer to hit a variety of shots and have to be creative in their short game, making this course stand out from others in the region.”

Water damage to a chipping area left of #16 green that also received additional drainage

In addition to the drainage projects, new greenside fans will be added to several holes this Spring. “In the past, we have been somewhat handcuffed by the combination of humidity, heat, and excess rainfall during the summers with our greens. While we keep them smooth, our goal in 2012 is to keep them at a consistently quick speed all year, says Tom Pike, Lake Presidential’s Superintendent. “These fans will provide us the tools to keep our most challenging greens up to the level of our best greens and provide a consistently faster speed to the golfer.”

Since opening, Lake Presidential has taken on projects each year to better the course. As the layout begins its 5th season, it has matured nicely, but investment in these types of long term projects is vital to the consistency and standards that have been set for the course.

“We are looking forward to a tremendous season in 2012 with perhaps the best conditions we have had yet!’ continued Pike. “I’m excited to see the golfer’s out there enjoying the chipping areas and greens even more than last year!”

We look forward to bringing you more updates on the course this year and look even more forward to having you visit the course to experience Lake Presidential in 2012!

Jazz Artist Dimitri Nassar and Vocalist Anita King

Residents enjoyed a night of entertainment and delicious cuisine just minutes from their homes.  As they dined on  their choice of NY Strip, Chicken Chesapeake topped with Maryland Lump Crabmeat or Salmon Florentine, they enjoyed listening to the soothing sounds of the jazz quartet. Some chose to come for jazz and cocktails following the dinner seating, but a great time was had by all!

Beechtree residents got a chance to mingle with their neighbors and meet new people, enjoing a night out without the worry or fuss of traffic and finding parking.  “It’s so nice to be able to enjoy a night out without the hustle and bustle of traveling to downtown (Washington) D.C. Everything was awesome and this will be VERY popular,” said resident Kelly Baxter.
